2019-03-19 Joan Watson - GL

Peggy Pruitt passed away on Friday, March 8th. She joined the Motor Maids in 1964. Unfortunately, her failing eyesight prevented Peggy from continuing her active riding status. Peggy became a retired Motor Maid a few years ago. She is remembered by many given her long tenure in the club. Peggy was a very active member; serving the club as a District Director, and Advisory Editor from 1987-1990. Service was held on March 16
Peggy was born in Surry County, NC on September 3, 1930; daughter of the late Willie Kennedy and Anna Hemric Kennedy. She was a member of New Covenant Church in Ennice, NC. She was educated in Elkin City Schools and Charlotte Community College and retired from General Electric, Charlotte, NC. Peggy had an adventuresome spirit, riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle in all states including Canada with her fellow Motor Maids. Her passions were bird watching, long walks, quilting, gardening, dancing and her dogs. She was a lake dweller, but her later years were spent in the Blue Ridge Mountains which she loved and where she grew closer to God. Survivors include her husband, Forest Dick Pruitt; grandson, Jason Pruitt; daughter-in-law, Nancy Alps (Lynn); son, Rick Guyer and family; a niece and a nephew. The family would like to thank a devoted caregiver, Nina Caudill

    Joan Watson 1955

I took this photo in 1955 of Joan Watson of Pompton Lakes, N.J. about to lead The Motor Maids on a parade lap prior to the start of the Laconia N.H. 100 Mile National Road Race. 44 years later, in 1999 we attended the Vintage Races held at the same park with some of old original riders and many old fans. In talking to a woman in the motel next to ours, she said she always came to all the old events.. I showed her my old pictures, and when she got to this one. She said, That's Me. Amazing to meet her 44 years after taking pic. Joan was a 50 year Life Member of the Motor Maids and held Motor Maid Meetings at her home in Pompton. Those girls are true bikers .Joan passed at age 92 in 2020
