So I was just to exhausted to write yesterday, so I’ll tell you a bit about our fun trip. First off, let me say I have been blessed with having a great group of ladies that I consider one of my tribes! We just got away to be able to relax and enjoy some time together after working diligently for the better part of a year plus, to put on the Motor Maid’s 79th Convention in Temecula this past July, that was a huge success in many ways. We rented a wonderful cabin that accommodated 13, and had a game and entertainment room that was supplied with games, fuse-ball, billiards, shuffleboard, music, we brought our own refreshments, and cooked in a beautiful kitchen and Cheif Tonelli barBQ’d. Some of us took a ride around Shaver and Huntington Lakes, which were beautiful, but you could tell summer was coming to a close. Some of the docks had already been pulled out of the water, and many of the seasonal shops were closed, or only operating on the weekends. We laughed and conversed, and shared our thoughts on all sorts of subjects. It was a very comfortable weekend. Sunday morning at about 4:15, I turned over, and I heard, “are you awake?” I replied “I am now”! Kathi then tells me, “ if you get up and go to the bathroom, look out the window, the stars are so bright and so many”. I told her, “We have a window above the bed”. So, I proceeded to figure out how to open the shades on this pitched ceiling window, in the dark. When I finally got it open, I was happily amazed at the beauty of the dark velvet sky that was dusted in glitter and brightly shined the various constellations. Thank you Kathi for giving me the astronomy lesson! Kathi was able to name and point out several. I also figured out how to open the window, and when I peered out, I could see what was going to be the first cracks of dawn. I knew I needed more slumber before the ride home. So I closed up the ceiling hatch, closed the blinds and went back to sleep. Two hours later we got up, bikes were being moved for those ladies that were heading home, to arrive in day light while rolling off hundreds of miles. We all said our goodbyes, and headed out. Kimberly, Kathi Q and I (the 3 K’s) stayed away from the interstates and rode the back roads through the farms and orchards home. It was a cool morning that made riding truly relaxing, and I was glad that Prince and I had found our groove. We traveled through various towns, stopped at a local fruit stand, bought some delectables, pickled garlic, pickled carrots, dehydrated okra and beans, and of course a fresh nectarine and tomatoes. We stopped at a wonderful place in Porterville for lunch....the Vault Grill and Bar! A must if ever in the area. We continued up to Tehachapi, cut through Willow Springs, rode the back way through Lake Los Angeles, and home. We said our goodbyes, and Kimberly continued on another 2 hours, to her home. I finally relaxed once I knew all were home safe! Another great weekend of riding for the record book. With Carol Launderville, Kimberly Yackel and Diane Hadlock Komoto.
